CEU Course Description

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals have unique health experiences and needs.  This CEU course provides an overview of current health issues among LGBT populations.  While many challenges exist with regards to the availability of data, this course aims to create awareness among nurses of the needs, experiences, and health status of LGBT Americans.

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the diseases that may play a role in the increased rates of anal cancers among gay men.
  2. Enumerate the types of cancer that gay men are at an increased risk for.
  3. Explain the health risk associations between masculinizing hormone therapies, such as testosterone, and other disease conditions.
  4. Investigate the risk factors for heart disease that have been found to be more prevalent among lesbians than other women.
  5. Identify the group that reports more hazardous drinking.
  6. Describe the barriers to treatment services for transgender people.
