Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an illness that changes the brain and causes people to lose the ability to remember, think, use good judgment, and have trouble taking care of themselves.  This CEU course provides nurses with an understanding of the disease and strategies for caring for those with AD, including keeping the person safe, providing everyday care, and adapting activities.

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Enumerate safety tips nurses can follow for bathing a person with AD.
  2. Explain what a nurse can do to encourage the person with AD to communicate.
  3. Investigate the medicines that a person with AD should not take.
  4. Examine what causes agitation and aggression in a person with AD.
  5. Identify the household items that should be removed or locked up.
  6. Describe strategies that may help when the person with AD has swallowing problems.
