CEU Course Description

Approximately 36.7 million people across the planet are living with HIV and AIDS. To combat this overwhelming, global problem, clinicians have been working tirelessly to develop new treatment strategies. HIV/AIDS clinical care has improved dramatically over the decades. New medications and overall patient care methods have been established to decrease patient morbidity and mortality rates. This dramatic shift in HIV/AIDS treatment places new demands on health care professionals. This CEU provides nurses with a comprehensive review of the current HIV/AIDS treatment guidelines, while providing insight on how to improve the overall quality-of-life of those living with HIV/AIDS.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Examine the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) HIV treatment guidelines, while reviewing antiretroviral therapy (ART) and antiretroviral (ARV) medications.
  2. Identify treatment methods being used to reduce perinatal HIV transmission.
  3. Explore the patient care methods for women living with HIV/AIDS across their lifespan, including pregnancy, while obtaining an understanding of palliative care methods and the importance of ART adherence.
