CEU Course Description

Our Nation's health care facilities are entrusted with providing expert medical care in safe and secure environments for patients, staff, and visitors.  Many emergencies occur with little to no warning, therefore, it is critical for health care facilities to plan in advance to help ensure the safety, security, and general welfare of all members of the health care community.  This CEU course provides information about how to better prepare for an active shooter incident by discussing unique issues faced in a health care facility.

 CEU Course Objectives

1. Explain what nurses should be trained to do first during an active shooter incident.
2. Examine optimal shelter-in-place locations if a situation requires hiding.
3. Provide the essential information that nurses should be trained to contact and share with police.
4. Describe what aspects make health care facilities potential targets for attack.
