CEU Course Description

The first step in helping abused or neglected children is learning to recognize the signs of child abuse and neglect.  This CEU course provides a better understanding of the legal definition of, the different types of, and the signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect.  This course also explains the long-term physical, psychological, behavioral, and societal consequences of child abuse and neglect. Please note: this course is not approved for Pennslyvania ACT 31 Child Abuse requirement. Please visit your board's website for a list of approved providers.

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the primary issues addressed during home visits.
  2. Enumerate the circumstances that are considered abuse or neglect.
  3. Examine the signs and symptoms for when nurses should consider the possibility of physical abuse.
  4. Identify the diseases and conditions that adults who experienced abuse or neglect during childhood are more likely to suffer from.
  5. Describe what is considered to be medical neglect.
