This CEU course for nurses examines the behaviors that are considered nonsuicidal self-injury, the populations that self-injury is most commonly seen in, reasons for such behaviors, the link between self-injury and suicide, and how to measure and treat nonsuicidal self-injury behaviors. 

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the type of reaction nurses should display to a person that self-injures to build trust, assist in opening the door to recovery, and not limit the opportunity to talk.
  2. Investigate the risks of self-injury that nurses should be aware of.
  3. Identify signs of self-injury that nurses should be conscious of.
  4. Describe the harm reduction model that nurses can perform for patients that self-injure.
