Nurses have a very important role to play in the privacy and security of electronic health information. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) provides information to help nurses succeed in their privacy and security responsibilities. This CEU presents ONC information to enhance nurses' abilities and understanding of how to integrate federal health information privacy and security requirements into daily practices.

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Identify why patient privacy and security matters.
  2. Examine how to integrate HIPAA rules into your daily practice.
  3. Distinguish the differences between HIPAA safeguards, while obtaining an understanding of how to implement them in a HIPAA security management process.
