Adverse drug events (ADEs) can occur in any health care setting, however, a large majority of ADEs are preventable.  The goals of this CEU course are to outline the scope and development of the ADE Action Plan, identify resources to measure and monitor the burden of ADEs, describe prevention approaches, and address the high-priority ADE targets that are the focus of the ADE Action Plan.

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Discuss what should be done in clinical settings in which there is no single or ideal diagnostic treatment regimen.
  2. Enumerate the factors for which higher frequency of severe / serious events are associated.
  3. Explain a key element of any strategy to reduce the risk of events.
  4. Investigate what is most critical for guiding medication administration.
  5. Elucidate potential targets for reducing opioid ADEs.
  6. Describe what patients should be educated about in order to promote safe opioid use at home.
