Research indicates that obesity in America has reached epidemic proportions, especially among children. It is believed that nearly 1 in 3 children are overweight or obese. As a result, the role of health care professionals in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity is expanding in an attempt to promote weight management and healthier lifestyles. Health care professionals should be aware of their new expanded role in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity. This course will outline the new role of health care professionals, while highlighting recommendations for the prevention and treatment of obesity.
