CEU Course Description

The United States is in the midst of an unprecedented drug overdose epidemic.  Prescription drugs, especially opioid analgesics, have been increasingly involved in drug overdose deaths.  This CEU course provides a way to improve the understanding of current prescription drug abuse activities, reviews current initiatives, and identifies opportunities to ensure the safe use of prescription drugs with the potential for abuse and the treatment of prescription drug dependence.

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the items that are reduced among the states with prescription drug monitoring programs, compared to states without such programs.
  2. Explain how insurer and pharmacy benefit manager policies likely contribute to abuse and overdose.
  3. Investigate the differences between men and women with regard to the use and abuse of prescription drugs.
  4. Examine which groups are at an increased risk of dying from a prescription opioid overdose.
