Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States.  This CEU course provides a scientific evidence-base for practice evaluations and interventions, serving as a guide to help nurses determine best interventions and timing of care for their patients, better stratify stroke patients, reduce re-admissions, and optimize healthcare utilization.

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Enumerate the risk factors for deep vein thrombosis.
  2. Investigate the characteristics that are shown by patients with a high risk for aspiration.
  3. Examine the treatment that should be used specifically for chronic stroke patients.
  4. Elucidate the indicators that should be measured at three months following the acute stroke episode.
  5. Identify how often food and fluid intake should be monitored in patients with swallowing problems and/or aspiration risk.
  6. Describe the primary goal of rehabilitation.
