CEU Course Description

Health-care-associated infections are an important cause of morbidity and mortality among hospitalized patients worldwide.  This CEU course provides nurses with information to help reduce health-care-associated infections, including infections due to antibiotic-resistant organisms, by improving hand hygiene practices and use of gloves.

 CEU Course Objectives

  1. Enumerate the components of the hand hygiene intervention package and the critical aspects of a multidimensional hand hygiene program.
  2. Investigate how transmission of health-care-associated pathogens most often occurs.
  3. Identify when nurses should wear gloves according to recommendations listed in the CDC's Standard Precautions.
  4. Describe the actions required for competent handwashing.
